Sumida Hokusai Museum

The Sumida HOKUSAI museum has opened since in November in 2016.

This Museum is specialized for Katsuhika Hokusai【葛飾北斎】worked as a painter in the later years of the Edo 【江戸】Period, and Vincent van Gogh, French Impressionist artists and musicians alike was greatly inspired by his work. This museum is located in the birthplace of Hokusai. The museum architecture is designed by Kazuyo Sejima【妹島和世】who is a pritzker prize winner, one half of the acclaimed international firm SANAA. The replication of his messy studio is astonishing, in which you might experience his mad genius. He was said to have moved 3 times during the same day at one point. Hokusai moved an incredible 93 times during his lifetime. He was a fearsome house moving addict ! Most likely, Hokusai felt that by moving house, and accustoming to new surroundings, he gained inspiration for new piece of art.
