The Genesis and Development of Landscape Painting from Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien Wed. September 9 - Mon. December 7, 2015

The Kunsthistorisches Museum owns numerous art works that originated in the collection of the Hapsburg family as the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. This splendid collection of the Empire includes many attractive European landscape paintings such as 17th century Dutch and Flemish works of art that produced the first landscape paintings independent from other subjects in the history of European art. This exhibition shows the history of European landscape paintings whose background includes stories of Bible and myths, and gradually became established as an independent genre while being connected with the subjects such as seasonal workings and pastoral lives, from its origin to development. Approximately 70 works were chosen for this exhibit, with a focus on 'landscapes' among the paintings owned by Kunsthistorisches Museum.
