YOKAI in the Arts of Japan @ Edo-Tokyo Museum

YOKAI in the Arts of Japan @ Edo-Tokyo Museum

Edo-Tokyo Museum has a special exhibition about Japanese YOKAI: ghost, phantom, strange and supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore.
YOKAI 【妖怪】 is a broad and vague jargon, and there is not perfect translation in English or other Western languages. In the Edo 【江戸】periods ( 1603 - 1867 ), many Japanese artists such as Hokusai Katsushika, Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka explored the YOKAI world. This YOKAI exhibition gives a comprehensive introduction to Japan's strange apparitions.
